Something odd happens the week an automation goes live. The system works, and the team keeps doing the task by hand anyway, just in case.
That is not resistance. It is sensible caution, and it lasts until someone proves the new way holds up.
Expect a dip before the gain
For a week or two the business is running both processes. Output does not improve yet. Leaders who expect that dip stay calm through it. Leaders who do not tend to pull the plug a fortnight early.
Adoption is not training. It is the period where people find out the system does not embarrass them.
Name the person who owns it
Every workflow that survives has a human owner inside the business. Not a project sponsor, someone who uses it daily and is allowed to ask for changes.
Change one habit at a time
- Launch into one team before the whole business
- Keep the old path available for two weeks, then close it deliberately
- Review the first fortnight with the people doing the work, not above them
Handled well, the fortnight passes and nobody goes back. Handled badly, you own an expensive system that everyone politely works around.
